Sebastian Vettel edges Mark Webber for pole position at Singapore Grand Prix

SEBASTIAN Vettel ignored talk of records and championships after grabbing a sizzling pole position for the potentially decisive Singapore Grand Prix.

Instead the 24-year-old said he was delighted with his and the Red Bull team's performance after putting both cars on the front row of the grid for tonight's race under lights.

The German, who is seeking to retain his world drivers' championship, grabbed his 11th pole of the season - and was further boosted when Australian team-mate Mark Webber secured second place on the grid late on.

"A perfect qualifying session for us," beamed Vettel, who was more than three-tenths of a second faster than Webber and had the luxury of giving up on his last quick run.

"In the last run, I tried maybe a little bit too much at the chicane at Turn 10. I decided to abort and go easy - to not damage the car."
