TATA Nano - Whos Best Choice

Cars are something that create an emotional response among men. If we compare how men and women understand cars, it is very clear that men like cars as much as women like jewellery. But here is a study that is showing a slight reversal in these trends. According to a recent study by tata motors, the Nano has emerged as a car that is highly preferred by women.

The study has revealed that 10 per cent of Nano buyers in India are women. While the percentage of women among car buyers in India is just two per cent. This is some good news for Tata Motors. Women usually prefer cars that are easy to drive, easy to park and are nimble in traffic. The Tata Nano fits al these requirements perfectly and has evidently impressed women

In another startling revelation, more than 20 per cent of the Nano's buyers in Bangalore are women. So one in every five Nano drivers in Bangalore will be ladies. A Tata Motors representative while speaking about the high percentage of women Nano owners in Bangalore has stated the tech-savvy nature of people in India's silicon city and the need for independent mobility as the reason for high Nano ownership among women.

Another reason is the Nano's low price. The Nano was marketed as a vehicle that two wheeler owners could upgrade to. Several women prefer the affordable yet safe ride of the Nano. The Tata Nano is India's cheapest car and is powered by a 650cc rear mounted engine. Its small size allows easy manoeuvrability and it is fuel efficient too. Ideal for short city drives, the Nano has been appreciated for its interior space too.

Another notable feature that is being appreciated by women is the Nano's ability to climb steep roads effortlessly. The engine is quite peppy and responds to road conditions effortlessly.

Another car that has an image of being preferred by women is the Volkswagen New Beetle. The preference among women for the New Beetle is so high that according to Volkswagen more than half the New Beetle's buyers are women. In an effort to make the Beetle more male friendly, VW has now unveiled a more sporty Beetle at the recently concluded Frankfurt Motor Show.

Gold Plus Tata Nano
The Goldplus Nano is indeed a golden opportunity for Tata Motors to improve the image of its small car. The Nano's sales have not been at expected levels. August sales fell by as much as 65 per cent compared to last year. With recent instances of the Nano catching fire increasing the Tata Motors' 'Khushiyon ka chaabi' has suffered huge blows. Some say Tata Motors will display the Gold Plus Nano at several major cities and use the event to bolster its image.

Recent reports about the Nano show Tata Motors is trying to regain the Nano's lost ground. Tata Group chairman Ratan Tata who is a huge supporter of the Nano has dismissed reports of the small car catching fire aas sabotage and has stated every new car will face such incidents before all errors are corrected. Mr Tata has also said the carmaker had failed to market the Nano well and said new strategies would be required. The Gold Plus Nano could be part of this strategy.

Further Mr Tata has also emphasised that the Nano's image suffered due to its price increasing. The Nano was launched as a Rs.1 lakh car and that price tag did not lost for more than a few months. Mr Tata said at least one entry level model should have been priced at the Rs. 1 lakh mark.
